Your NewMotion app is now the Shell Recharge app

First of all, thank you for being a loyal user of the NewMotion app. The EV movement is growing thanks to drivers like you and we are thankful to accompany you on your electric journey.

Since 2017 NewMotion has been a proud member of the Shell Group. Together, Shell and NewMotion are working to meet the charging needs of EV drivers – at home, at work or on the road.

Today a growing number of Shell forecourts across Europe are offering the Shell Recharge fast charging service. With the new Shell Recharge app we are planning to bring you a host of improved services and offerings across the Shell forecourts and the charging network in the near future.

You will receive the Shell Recharge app through an automatic app update. Your charge sessions or transactions will not be impacted in any way and you will be able to use your charge card across our charging network just like you’re used to.

We'll roll out the app update in stages. Once you receive the update, the change will be instant – the next time you open the app, it will be Shell Recharge.

Q: How does my phone update to the Shell Recharge app?

A: The old app of NewMotion will automatically update to the Shell Recharge app. When automatic updates are turned off on a device, users will get in-app prompts linking them to update their app.

Q: What if I don’t update to the Shell Recharge app?

A: The Shell Recharge update will happen automatically. If auto-updates are turned off and you don’t update manually, you will be using an outdated version of the app until you do update it to the Shell Recharge app.

Q: Can I choose to opt out of the update?

A: You cannot opt out of the update, the Shell Recharge update will happen automatically. If auto-updates are turned off and you don’t update manually, you will be using an outdated version of the app until you do update it to the Shell Recharge app.

Q: Am I now a customer of Shell?

A: No, you are still a NewMotion customer. NewMotion as of October 2017 has been a part of the Shell Group.

Charge cards & costs

Q: Will charge costs be different or effected?

A: No, there will be no change to charging costs due to the Shell Recharge update.

Q: Can I still use my current charge card with the Shell Recharge app?

A: Yes, your charge card will still work with the new Shell Recharge app and at any charge point in the charge network.

Q: Do I need to order a new charge card?

A: No, there is no need to order a new one, your current card will work with the new app and all charge points in the charge network.

Q: Can I still order charge cards through the app?

A: You can still order charge cards through the app. This will be a Shell Recharge charge card.

Q: Can I still order a NewMotion charge card?

A: The NewMotion charge card will no longer be available for private customers.

Q: Is the Shell Recharge card different from the NewMotion charge card?

Q: What is the difference between the new Shell Recharge app and old NewMotion app?

Q: Will my app settings be transferred to the new Shell Recharge app?

A: Most app setting will be transferred. Your favourites and saved cars might be reset.

Q: Where will my personal data go? Who will store/own my data?
