NewMotion’s response to #blacklivesmatter
The #blacklivesmatter movement is incredibly important. As a company, we wanted to take a moment to pause and reflect with all of our employees about what this means to us and how we can enact positive change at NewMotion for today and the future.
Our position on this matter is clear; we oppose the oppression of black communities and other minority groups who receive prejudice due to the colour of their skin, and stand with you as you strive for equality. We support the right to peacefully protest and condemn violence of any kind.
We wanted to address this with our employees as a collective, so last month we held an all-company meeting where we asked two questions: What does #blacklivesmatter mean to you? and; What actions can NewMotion take to be anti-racist?
We were overwhelmed by the solidarity of responses to the first question and thoughtful feedback to the second. Here are the top three areas where our employees want to see action:
- Hiring Policy - 28%
- Learning/Workshops - 22%
- Public company message - 21%
This must be an ongoing conversation and we will regularly be reviewing, amending, and adding new measures to our short and long term plans.
At NewMotion we hope that with our commitment to positive change we can build a better workplace for all our current and future employees. As a management team, we understand that it is our responsibility to lead by example so here is our public declaration to uphold these values.
